2.5D Modeling of Gravity Data

Depth is one of the most valuable parameters that can be determined through geophysical methods. Several Method are available for estimation of Depth, like Gravity and Magnetic method of prospecting, Seismic methods, etc. Gravity methods play a significant role in hydrocarbon exploration. Negative Gravity anomaly are usually observed over sedimentary basins. The sedimentary basin is irregular in shape, so in forward modeling unless we know the shape of the anomalous body the interpretation of Gravity anomaly become a very difficult task. Sedimentary basin is assume to be the n-sides polygon. The mathematical model is generated to find the gravity anomaly generated by 1-side of polygon out of n-sides and using this mathematical model the gravity anomaly of n-sides polygon is calculated. The gravity anomaly generated due to 1-side of n-sides polygon is the function of two extreme sides and depths of the line defining that 1-side of n-sides polygon. The Forward modeling Matlab code is generated for calculation of gravity anomaly due to n-sides polygon having density contrast varying with depth define by parabolic function. The Matlab code for Inversion of the Gravity anomaly and getting back the depth and generating of n-sides polygon(shape of sedimentary basin) is been successfully tested with the synthetic data and observed field data. The initial depth to the forward model is supplied with the help of Bougour Gravity formula, then the process of Iteration is been carried out to reach the actual depth.
